Would this filter take the place of a water softener? We are on well water and use a softener.

We got two of the GE ones (about $50) and put them next to each other, to take the iron out of our water. We have to change filters more often than in the one you have, though.
Believe it or not, our bread comes out softer when we have good filter elements in!

ok - I guess I am just really stupid - but I have looked around the site you linked for several minutes ~ I see a set-up that doesn't look like yours, costs $299 (as opposed to $200) & that says you need to change filters 3 times a year..... I clicked on the home system option - but it seems to just refer to drinking water and in looking at the diagram, it installs under the sink - but I don't see how the water gets elsewhere in the house.. what am I missing???
please advise.
sorry to be an ignoramus! Ordinarily, I'd just quietly move on my way - but this is something I've been thinking about, as we have been having problems with our counter-top water filter...
thanks!

@JavaLady--I didn't know about the asthma thing! That should be helping out my son.

@Lynda--It's awesome. I can *smell* the water everywhere else we go now.

@Teresa--I've never heard of the Big Burkey. But after calculating up what I was spending on the sink and shower filters, this was a deal!

@Lindsay--Diva dogs! Ah well, I think I have diva goats.

@Miss Becky--Now THAT'S dedication!
