My goats leave me presents every day on the porch. So I sweep them up and dump them in the bedding straw pile next to the ‘barn’.
My husband thinks I’ve got a problem.
COMPOSTER’S GLEE!
He might be right.

Love your goat “barn”. Too cute.
Tell him to have no fear; you aren’t the only one. I do that with the chicken poop I find on my deck, except mine goes in the compost tumbler.
LOVE YOUR BARN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is that where the chickens sleep?
You see? You can do anything with a little imagination!!!

Hey…to each his own, right?! I get happy knowing that all of that icky chicken poop I insist on carefully shoveling into the compost heap is going to make for some RICH soil next season, too!
I don’t have any animals of my own but I do quite often go out and shovel up the horse poop for my compost heap…I get some VERY strange looks…lol!
I can’t imagine he’d rather you just leave them on the porch!
I sometimes think I have a composting problem too, when I kill myself raking up all the grass clippings in the yard. I usually finish picking them all up just in time to mow the lawn and start again.
I WISH I had animals with good compostable poop! (The chickens aren’t bad, but they don’t make enough of it… you’re right, composting can be an addiction.)
Holy Heck that barn is CUTE!
And Michelle, chicken straw is great in the garden. I don’t even compost it, but just sprinkle it around wherever the garden needs a bit of mulch. I’ve also put a bit where I planted some serviceberry plants 4-5 years ago. They grew maybe 4-5 inches each year, with no real side branches. This year, with the addition of the chicken straw, they’ve SHOT up into the air, branches galore, and are sending up lots of other stems. Hooray for chicken straw!
OMGosh!! I just love that barn, how cuute!!! : ) Made my DH and I smile. I should suggest that to my parents who have a mini.
I receive your posts every day! I look forward to putting the kids down every night and checking out the happenings in the ‘burbs!
I wish my ‘burbs were as cool as yours!
Keep ‘em coming! : )
I think my composter’s glee envy may be worse than the glee…
can we safely add dog poo to our compost ? one of our doggies has moved herself ”outdoors” and will not come inside. That’s fine, since she has a very nasty habit of going potty indoors. Yes, we did the whole crate and potty training on an adult rescued dog but to no avail. So now she has the whole acre back yard to do her poo in, but does she ? oh no. .. she leaves it right at the back door !!!!!!!! Ggggrrrr. So I am still scooping up dog poo !! This doggie may have to go back to the shelter, I am so sick of this. OR maybe I just should build her a dog-run like the chicken’s pen ?? ROFL
PS
I love your compost pile !! I too have compost envy !!
@Javalady–It is quite covet-able! And you can’t put doggie poo in the compost pile. Anything that every eats meat is against the rules. It brings ‘other’ bacteria. When we had a dog, I just dug a big hole and filled it up with poo.
@Lorrwill–on the cuckoo scale? It might be…
@Kat–Thank you! It’s my kids’ cast-off.
@acv2–Thank you! The chickens have their own coop on the other side of the house. They use it if I toss them in the goat yard for fun, but at night, they prefer they’re own house.
@Michelle–I don’t shovel the chick poo. I feel so ashamed. WASTEFUL.
@Tanya Walton–TL does that too. She ‘forgot’ to return one of my recycling bins and now it’s her horse poo hauler.
@Bethany James—I”m a raker too.
LOVE the barn! If I had a barn like that, I’d have all the neighborhood kids fighting to be in there with the goats. The goats already fight the chickens for the coop. Such a silly bunch of animals! You all make me feel so wasteful for not scooping out the poo often enough! It could be half composted by now! Must send the hubby on that…
Hysterical—you caught me off guard with your “barn!”.
I think that a composting addiction is perfectly healty. If you find a support group for that, be sure and let me know.
I love that little barn! I don’t have any backyard critters as I live in a subdivision that forbids any livestock. I do however compost all my fruit/vegetable peelings, egg shells and coffee grounds. I had the best tomato plants ever this year using my compost. Made a believer out of me!
@Lindsay, AG, Jan–everyone loves the barn! I do too…
