Know your produce for pesticides

Poring over those gorgeous seed catalogs while my goats were ankle deep in snow made me dream of spring.

Now it’s here, and it’s time to get serious about gardens.

Since I’m the only gardener in the family, and I just delivered baby No. 4, I suspect that without the help of some generous friends, my garden will be largely imaginary this year.

But maybe not.

The Environmental Working Group has listed 49 produce items in order of likely pesticide residue (foodnews.org). The best 15 are nicknamed “The Clean Fifteen,” while the worst 12 are nicknamed “The Dirty Dozen.” These are the produce items that I should buy as organic or grow myself.
