Damaged in a storm many years ago, this oak caught just the right wind one dark night recently and now is no more.  We kept the lumber and are trying to make the most of it.

This tree stood here for a hundred years and has meant a lot to our family for the last sixty of those years.  It held a treehouse and a swing and its roots made for good leaping.

I drilled a few holes in one small section of branch for a pen/pencil/paintbrush holder.  It was so simple it hardly merits a step-by-step.  After selecting the right diameter branch, I cut a slice, drilled a few holes a generous pencil width in size, sanded and finished with a mixture of melted beeswax and olive oil.

It’s a simple way to remember a special tree using only simple tools and a little elbow grease.
