Pill (mint) cutting: Dollar Store trays, pill containers, and pill cutters make breath mints REALLY fun.
Sockets: Raiding Dad’s socket set keeps kids busy stacking, grading, and lacing.
Magnets: Is it magnetic or not? Who knew your junk drawer was full of such excitement. Just grab another handful of junk and the activity remakes itself.
Caribeaners : 4/$ at Walmart. Little kids will clip and unclip for ages. Just watch out, they’ll walk off with them and be clipping things together you never thought possible.

Great ideas! You’re “pill cutting” game would be a good time to teach children about what is candy and what isn’t (sorry, I work in a pharmacy!) as well as fractions!
My four-year-old thinks literally everything is a game. He got a set of old fashioned, wooden blocks that came with a lid for the specific shapes to fit through. When I was TRYING to put him to bed, he begged me to play the “Pick Up Game” All he wanted to do was pick up all the blocks. Tell me that this is not a phase!
I love your website and have linked to you on my new site.
What wonderfully simple fun ideas!
I think I spent hours taking my dads sockets out and putting them back in their case–what a great suggestion.
