I’ve called a temporary halt to my garden shape-up due to inclement weather. We’ve had over 10 inches of rain over the last few days and it’s raining right now.

I’m eyeing one of the garden eyesores with new respect:

IMG_7322I’m joking, sort of, but there have been some water rescues not far from here.

Aaaand–my basement flooded.IMG_4524 Twice. Including as I write this.

Quelle joie.

So here are some soggy garden scenes.

I’ll look back on them soon and wonder where all this water went. I’ll probably be spritzing the carrot bed with a hose as soon as next week.

Soggy daffodils.

Soggy chickens.

And muddy boots.

Speaking of carrots, I read somewhere recently, can’t remember where, of a tip to get them started. It said put a board over the seeded bed. When the seeds germinate, remove the board, but don’t take it away. Prop it up on a couple of bricks so it shades the bed closely, until the seedlings get started. Carrots can take a long time to germinate, so be patient.

I suppose this rain is good for the carrots, since they’re in a raised bed and haven’t flooded, but I’m ready for a break in the clouds.
