Southern Children’s Author: Deanna Caswell

Deanna grew up in the mountains of East Tennessee eating corn bread in milk and trying not to say “ya’ll” during class presentations. She spent her childhood playing with her daddy’s geiger counters and burning holes in the carpet with chemistry sets–when she wasn’t hacking through the backyard woods with a machete, building forts with her brother, hunting wild blackberries or crawdaddies.
Deanna’s most defining feature is her unquenchable curiosity, which she has followed through a variety of travels, studies, and professions. Deanna has been a nanny, lab tech, teacher, waitress, calculus tutor, counselor, and mountain guide. She holds a B.S. in Chemistry, a minor in Math, and an M.A. in Family Therapy. Deanna has traveled to forty-one states, Canada, England, France, Italy, and Africa.
These days, she is privileged to share her diverse experiences and love of learning through children’s books, newspaper and book articles, and posts for Little House in the Suburbs (under the pseudonym Ivory) while caring for three kids, four red-headed chickens and two miniature goats.
Deanna’s first book, FIRST BALLET (Hyperion) arrived October 6, 2009. Her second book, TRAIN TRIP (Hyperion) arrives Fall 2010. She can also be found in the 2009 and 2010 Children’s Writers Market.
Deanna is represented by Steven Malk of Writer’s House.

It’s so great to learn about you! Best wishes with the book,
What fun! Thanks for sharing!
Love your web site, as you know. I didn’t receive your blog via email tonight like I usually do. Went to sign up again, but pop-up stated I’m already subscribed. If there’s something I need to do to resolve this, please let me know. I usually forward your emails on to friends I think may be interested in the subject matter. I love sharing the good things in life with people and your site is definitely one of them. Take care and congratulations on your book! That’s so very exciting!
