What is Little House?
Little House is a place where Ivory and TL keep up on each other’s latest DIY project and share the how-to’s with you.
However, if you’re looking for an overarching category for it, here are some of the terms that I’ve run across:
Green Living
Voluntary Simplicity
Back to the Land
Food Not Lawns
Urban/Suburban Homesteading
Sustainable Living
Frugal Living
Survivalism
Self-Sufficiency
I’m not sure Little House fits any of these exceptionally well, except perhaps, suburban homesteading? I live on a 1/4 acre and go to the store WAY less often than I used to. But, I’m really not HOMESTEADING so much as becoming homestead-esque (greener/more self-sufficient/voluntarily simple.)
Regardless, we are living at an exciting time where the environmentalists, homesteaders, frugal folks, farmers, simple living people, and your blessed aged grandma are not just sharing common behaviors, but are COOL.
For the first time in ages, people flaunting the home owners association rules and line drying their cloth diapers have ‘the moral high ground.’ That is WILD. Before now, people who did things like that were ‘driving down the property value’ or ‘poor’ or ‘totally redneck.’ Now, THEY’RE ADMIRED!!! (BTW, I totally need a laundry line. I had a friend in college whose mom line dried the bed sheets each week. I still remember that sharp ozone-sanitized smell. Mmmmm.)
So, in short, Little House is a place where you can find instructions (and charming repartee) for all the hare-brained DIY you can stand!
