T.L.

Who the heck are we?

We’re just two old friends with similarly nice hubbies, naughty babies, and way too many pets.
We garden, cook, build, craft, soap, and raise smallstock in the super-swanky fancy-pants ‘burbs–confounding friends, family, and neighbors.

We blog about 85% tutorials and 15% bonker ranting (which is always between you, me, and the Fence Post.)  If you can endure the 15%, you’ll have plenty of projects, free patterns, and all of the how-to’s you can stand.

Are we still normal moms?
I still send my kids to school with Capri-Sun, keep the A/C too cool to be eco, and let my kids watch WAY too much television. And T.L. has an affinity for boxed cereals and crackers that I just can’t understand. So we’re normal-esque. We just like our own creations better than most store-bought versions and generally swallow our tongues when we see how much people are paying for that stuff.

Why the nicknames?
Internet anonymity is a good thing. But Ivory is totally screwed there anyway since she has a children’s book out, but made her media debut here, here, here, and here cause she’s crazy and got a totally legal pet goat and animal control preferred not to see it that way and sent her to court.  T.L. has not chosen such flamboyantly public hobbies, so she gets to stay mysterious forever.

Thanx so much for the running commentary on EVERYTHING! I have been reading all this stuff to my daughter and we both have been cracking up along with being thoroughly intrigued! We live in interior Alaska, where Wally World is a mere 3 hrs away! This is great. So, my first batch of sour cream is on the shelf. Me and the soap bar and ac vinegar are headed for the shower! Can’t wait to get into more stuff!

I LOVE this blog!!! So much wonderful info. When I first saw the pictures of “T.L.” and “Ivory” after reading your articles I thought that they were your real photos. I thought….”wow, these women must either be independant, free spirited pioneers who have travelled the world….or they must drink a lot of booze in the afternoon”. LOL! Thanks again for such a great blog! I’ll be coming back daily.

Wonderful website! How about something on making your own perfume, as it is so pricey?!
Please keep me on your mailing list!!!

@Julia Neither of us wear perfume. It never crossed my mind. I’ll think about it.

Loooove this site, just ’cause the how-to’s are so flipping easy any normal person can do ‘em. Newspaper seedling pots and cheesemaking in one place? Fab!

Hi … my rs whatever feed is stuck for some reason on your garlic post from six or seven months ago … I’ll have to reboot it or some crazy geeky thing. I do enjoy your blog when I get a chance … keep up being ‘normal’ … it agrees with you (a compliment:)

Greetings, I really enjoy your website and love the barnyard and garden thoughts. I saw your gourds and wanted to let you know that they are very caustic if cut open. Please wear masks and google birdhouse gourd prep BEFORE opening one. very caustic on lungs….. The site will give you LOTS of practical advice!!! Take care Deb

I just love you guys :) My husband is a teacher and I’m a stay at home mom. We both love to garden and DIY. We are always interested in learning more. So, your blog just fascinates me -And I want chickens so badly. I’m jealous. But, my town doesn’t allow them. I’m thinking stealth coop…. maybe :) .
