We love using our electric flyswatter. That crack of electricity when you get one is such a satisfying sound. However, there is a technique to catching those buggers. This is a really short post, but it will change your life.
1. Wait for the fly to land.
2. Place edge of racket on surface, about eight inches from fly’s rear end.
3. Briskly scrape it across the surface and try to smack in in the tuckus!
ZAP!
Why does this work? Because flies take off horizontally, not vertically. And you know he’s going to try to run. If you come at him from above, you can’t catch him. But if you’re on his tail, moving horizontally just like him, he can’t escape.
It takes a little practice, but my world is a better place…
yay…love this post!!! AND this site!!!
Yes! We have one of these. Hours worth of family fun. 🙂
I love that fly swatter….I used one for the first time this past weekend! It’s fun!
Oh, I have a zap racket for yellow jackets, works on flies, too — and I LOOOOOVE it.
I was never the type to pull the wings off of bugs or burn ants with a magnifier, but I can’t tell you much I enjoy frying those stupid flying beasties when they dare to enter my house…
Oh we have one and I love it. It works great with gnats and mosquitos too, but with flies I have found that some of them don’t die but get “super-charged” and then they race around the room like their tushy is on fire!!! lol
I didnt know this! thank you!
Hang a heavy duty plastic bag outside your door filled with water to keep flies out of the house. The water in the bag reflects the light and is nightmare for the flies with their multifaceted eyes. Ask any elder European grandmother “Does work?” They will reply “It works!” “It works!” You may want to dust off to keep it shiny.
