Wow, I can’t believe the difference. I’ve never eaten fresh eggs. That’s astounding. I hope to garden and have chickens one day when I’m not living in a townhouse with only enough grass – er, moss – to put a grill on. Sigh… some day!

I don’t have my own chicks but do get my eggs from a guy up the road who owns them…I NEVER buy store bought eggs….they are very tasteless and pale…yuk!!!!

I have ONE chicken….hoping for more…anyway, this chicken lays one egg about every two or three days, and, if I’m not paying attention, and get it soon, SHE EATS IT!!!!!!!!! It’s “The Silence of the Chickens”!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Like we couldn’t tell. We are not allowed chickens in our subdivision and have no current friends with them but on the rare occasions when I have had the privilege to eat really fresh eggs, I have marveled at the difference between them and store-bought. No wonder our national health is not what it once was.
I think most of us chicken-lovers have a post like this. Go chicken owners!

Sniff, sniff. I too used to have chickens. And then we moved and then I got divorced…I got the kids, he got my chickens and my rabbits (and the rabbit cages I made before I ever met him!) Ok, so I got the better end of THAT deal!
But I still miss really fresh yard eggs. That one looks SO yummy!
I have ducks. Mine are only four months old and I go out every morning and check the pen to see if they have started laying yet. Any day now, girls!! Momma wants her eggs.

The one on the RIGHT is the pale, flavorless, paltry substitute for the RICH, deeply colored, deliciously flavored and tasty FARM FRESH EGG on the LEFT. … there ya go !
Oh hey, I have to share this with ya’all !! I’ve been getting eggs pretty regularly, 3 or more per day from my 5 hens. But today, I got the very first one out of the coop that was STILL WARM !! That was an awesome feeling !! I took it in and had all the kids hold it and feel the warmth from that egg. We all grinned and grinned. Ya gotta love that !! And ya can not get that from a cold, refrigerated, store-bought egg. No ma’aam ya cain’t !! Chickens ROCK !!

I can’t have chickens in the city limits….even with a nice big yard that has a privacy fence. Thank goodness for the local farmers market. I buy at least a dozen farm eggs each week. There is no comparison to the store bought ones.

i have chickens and LOVE!!!!!! my fresh,bright orange yolks! tha store bought ones are so pale they ae almost clear. UGH!!!!!!!!

Huh… I have only had grocery store eggs and they taste eggy, so I can’t imagine how else they are supposed to taste. I have heard that fresh milk from a local dairy tastes, “way better than store milk, like grass” which sounds like an oxymoron to me. I don’t want my milk to taste like grass. And a warm egg might freak me out. And I am dying of curiosity about a chicken laying an egg. I had a parakeet who died right after laying an egg, she was about 12 years old, and I just can’t stop thinking that it should be as tramatic as giving birth.

@Sarah–eggier, HA! Have you had much organic produce? Once you’ve eaten organic carrots for a month, when you get a hold of some conventional ones, they taste diluted. It’s one of those things you notice in reverse. We eat so many eggs here that I still have to buy eggs at Aldi, so we often use the backyard eggs to “flavor” the store-bought.
My city just changed the ordinance to allow chickens in town so we got our first four girls (I hope, since we can’t keep roosters) last Saturday. But, I have been getting my eggs from my “egg lady” for over a year and a half. She even delivers! Can’t wait ’til I get my own though. Yes – definately “eggier”! The color contrast is incredible! I grew up with farm eggs and fresh milk too-you know-the kind where it comes in a glass gallon jar so you can see the 3″ of cream on top? Best ice cream EVER!

I don’t have chickens now. 🙁
But we did score a couple dozen eggs last week and man are they good! I use store bought eggs for recipes and save the “homemade” eggs to eat plain!
Making another batch of your tabasco sauce… a HUGE batch! Just sent SO to store for a couple gallons of vinegar and more garlic! Was a huge hit and plan on canning for gifts.
I did post the hot wing sauce recipe on your tabasco page – had it last night on grilled wings and it was great! And truly homemade thanks to your recipe!
And I did fine more tomato ideas – both red and green preserves and green tomato pickles and relish! Tomorrow’s project…
Just spotted this post as a search your archives and all I can say is ‘I agree’. We get eggs from my husband’s parents farm and them alone has made chickens the top of the list for our farm!!
