At my house, there really are no recipes. So this is most properly called Ivory’s February 2010 Chili…as it will never be the same again.
I have really enjoyed forcing my kids to eat by hanging the Wii over their heads as a carrot. Two nights ago, I thought it would be grand to make my kids eat chili to earn their play rights, which is something they would have NEVER allowed in their mouths previously. So here’s what I had in the cupboard…
Ivory’s Chili (This Week)
a serious glug of canola oil
2 lbs thawed ground turkey bullets
1 onion
3 cloves garlic
6-7 T chili powder
two cans drained black beans
1 1/2 BIG cans crushed organic tomatoes
salt to taste
~2T sugar
1. Brown meat in oil. Get bored before it’s done and go ahead and toss in onions and garlic.
2. Consider adding giant piles of zucchini, shredded carrots, and celery, but realize that I haven’t gone to the store yet, so that’s a no-go. Add rest of ingredients and simmer15 minutes.
YUM!
I know what you mean by the no recipes thing. Most of the time when I make things like chili or soup, I’ll have a base recipe of ingredients (stored in my head) and add random things from the fridge and freezer that I just happen to have: “Ooohh, carrots sound good. Mmm…frozen corn and peas. Broccoli? Why not?” Same goes for spices. It’s a very exact science.
Yum!
Oh I know exactly what you mean with the no recipe thing. (I have always felt recipes were a “guideline” to give a general idea!)
Every now and then something turns out exceptional and I don’t remember what I did different! THEN I wish I had measured a bit! LOL – I feel kinda bad for people that have no imagination in the kitchen…like my sister…
