My Daddy’s Oatmeal
mason jar of water
1/2 mason jar of old fashioned oats
handful of raisins
1T cinnamon sugar or brown sugar
1T salty butter or margarine
shredded coconut
milk
optional crushed walnuts
1. Toss raisins in pan of water and heat to boiling.
2. Stir in oats, return to boiling for a few minutes. Set aside until stiff.
3. Add butter and sugar. Add water if consistency too thick. Too thin is irreparable. Best to start out too stiff.
4. Top with coconut, walnuts, and a moat of milk.
It’s the moat of milk that does it! At no time should it be mixed in — grab some oatmeal as the solid and dip into the moat. Go Daddy!
YUM!!!!!!!
There is nothing better than a hot bowl of this good oatmeal on a cold morning. I love to substitute dried cranberries or dried cherries sometimes for a bit of variety. It is so good. Economical too….a big container of old fashioned oats is inexpensive and goes a long way. Yummy!
That really sounds delicious and I’m going to make some. I do have a dumb question though. What is a moat of milk? Am I right in assuming that it’s sort of a trench of channel of milk and then you mix all of it together?
Hehehe – love the precise measurements!
My daddy made me oatmeal with moat of milk and a lake in the middle. What good memories!
