Good news! I got my window fixed. See that bottom right pane? It was busted out with a plastic mini-rocket. Good thing I called my handyman to replace it, huh? It would have looked SO TACKY otherwise.
Unfortunately, less than a month after it was repaired, my youngest killed another pane with a marble and I don’t know how he jacked up that screen!
In case you missed it in the first picture, here’s a diagram for you:
Rectangle: shiny new pane I enjoyed for almost four weeks.
Triangle : next broken pane.
Bent line: jacked up screen.
Does anyone else ask yourself why you bother to fix anything until they graduate college?

we can’t have nice things, either. i have blue and black permanent marker on my beige leather couch, and various colors of markers on the walls of my hallway and my son’s room, plus on his white furniture. we no longer have markers in the house, but i’m not going to bother painting until he’s at least 10. 🙂
My mother refused to buy new living room furniture until my younger brother moved out. Shortly after he moved out, new furniture moved in and still looks good years later. Unlike the ratty, broken support, knife slitted old set.
{snort} Every darn day!
You would love a Facebook page called “shit my kids ruined”. You should send the pic to them. I laugh so hard when I look at it.
OH I totally know what you mean ! How DO they DO that jacked up stuff??
I know this is not funny when you are going through it, but years later you all will have a good laugh about it all. Just wait two years after your kids go to college before you put out anymore good stuff. Also, enjoy cardboard and tape on your windows it does add to the lived in look. LOL I am now enjoying decorating my house again. Even if I now have to straighten the couches due to our lovly other children the dogs. LOL All kidding aside, enjoy their childhood for they are making wonderful memories for you. Thanks for the memories you bring to my mind.
I can only offer this……When the kids finally grow up and leave home, they start having our grandkids to pick up where they left off. I had some of those windows too from being pushed from the inside out. Some children can just make it happen and don’t know how they did it. Sigh! Thanks for provoking some bittersweet memories of years gone by.
P.S. It would look good with a picture painted on it.
Believe me they can do it after college
I ask myself that all the time. ALL THE TIME!! My mom asked me if I wanted the couch and loveseat from her place. They’re white! I am pretty sure she’s forgotten what this is like so I loaned her the kids for a few days.
I get it! I’ve painted my dining room twice in 4 years. Now I just put a piece of kid artwork over the offend(ed?)ing area. I fantasize about wrapping the walls in butcher paper. But I’m afraid that would send the wrong message.
we fix because it’s too cold not to….and besides which when they graduate and leave then then return with grandchildren…the only benefit is you can send them home…lol….oh but for all the breaking s we still love them unconditionally!
We haven’t broken any windows yet, but its amazing what one very large glass of grape juice can do to your carpet-sofa-wooden bench in 2 seconds time. Spotless floors are my secret dream.
Things improved when our kids were big enough to help when they asked for new paint on the walls of their rooms. I said “OK” and had them help:
1. Take down all your posters.
2. Here is spackle, a putty knife, and sandpaper.
3. Patch all the thumbtack/nail holes in your walls.
I painted (not ready for them to be painting walls with carpet on the floor).
They never again marked or thumbtacked the walls 😉
