On a recent trip we took the kids to the Discovery Park of America in Union City, Tennessee.
Basically in the middle of nowhere is a colossal multi-theme park (not amusement park), complete with real trains, log cabins, barns, farm equipment, a 100 year old chapel, recreated small town America . . .
It’s impossible to describe because it doesn’t fit into any easy category. Go to the website and explore.
We really enjoyed it and spent five hours and could have easily spent all weekend and still not had a chance to soak it all in properly. I took pictures and want to show you some of what I saw. Given my proclivities, much of what I took pictures of was in the old farm/barn category. I was especially fascinated by the barn door closures.
And this:
And this cool laundry set-up:
And this righteous lye cabinet:
You fill it with hardwood ashes, pour in rainwater, and use the lye water for soapmaking.
Lots to see here.
Wow. Beauty.
I want to make a chair like this someday.
Corn broom!
DPA is full of modern stuff, too, and many, many different types of exhibits. This photo is a good illustration of the juxtaposition of contrasts found here:
Whether you and your family are into planes, trains, & automobiles, or dinosaurs, militaria, & natural history, you’ll find something here you really like. I challenge you to define it, however. It defies description.
Have you heard about Discovery Park? Anyone visited?
Looks like a very interesting place to visit. Thank you for sharing.
I live 30 minutes and still have not went but I hope to soon! Thanks for sharing. This is a huge investment in our small town living. I hope it does well! Beautiful photos.
Good photography. I think the rocking chair is my favorite, followed by the building structures. Such beauty in utility. Can you tell I am a builder’s daughter?
We have talked about going there and were sitting on the fence but not we gotta go!!! Thanks
Andrea–It’s very well-done, no expense spared, and still has that new car smell, so to speak! Neat and clean as a pin.
Kim Whitson–Oh, definitely. You will like it a lot.
Sallie–Yes, I agree!
