When the weather forecast was for thunderstorms again last night with the possibility of hail and damaging winds, I feared for my garden.
Particularly the tall-necked, tender petals of the bearded iris.
And of course I paled at the thought of hail tearing into the spring salad greens.
But it didn’t happen.
The thunderstorm happened, yes, but there was no hail, and the wind was blustery, not devastating. So the mop-headed alliums are still blazing.
The lettuce leaves are still glossy-beautiful.
In their tidy bed between the garlics.
And the Swiss chard and sweet basil stand tall.
Most of all, the first one of these turned ripe today.
I feel like we ought to have a First Strawberry of the Year Party, wear strawberry hats, put the strawberry on a platter and have a parade around the garden.
That berry looks delicious! Mine have not even thought about blooming here in NW Ohio.
Congratulations!! My plants are very happy and full of white blossoms and growing green strawberries. This is so amazing !! Thank you for all your tips for growing strawberries!
